Mind, Body, Soul

We must commit to at least one thing that encourages growth and nurturing of all three. When combined we experience a natural high that no external being can create. As we grow and indulge in self awareness we learn that the love we seek has been within us all along.

This journey is personal.

Hey! So glad you're here.

It wasn't until the age of sixteen that I was able to successfully swallow a pill.

As a kid, I would research what my family needed to do to lead a healthier life. I've honestly never been a fan of prescription or over the counter medicine. I always knew there were preventative measures that could be taken. Sometimes we fall into the trap of an idea that certain ailments are genetic when the reality is that your lifestyle is genetic and you do have the power to decide to change.

Back then all I had was my orange book. Now that I know there are more natural options; Options that can easily be found in my kitchen cabinet or a nearby garden I am committed to making it a lifestyle!

I love to eat. Many of these medicinal herbs and spices aren't difficult to sneak into my diet. You'll find that as you incorporate healing foods internally, consequentially you will see the effects externally.

Take a look and see all of the natural ways you can heal your mind, body and soul!

Basil

Basil

Basil is one that you could easily grow in your kitchen. Place it on a windowsill and watch it grow! Not only does it enhance the flavor of many of your favorite meals it also has medicinal properties. Basil contains antioxidants making it a digestion aid, a cup of basil tea can help remedy the cold and flus. It also works well as an anti-aging topical option for your skin; use it in soaps and face creams. Why not have it on hand?

Lavender

Lavender

I prefer the taste of Lavender over the smell, but it is a common aroma. You'd be surprised of all the benefits Lavender holds in regards to your health. It can be used as an oil as well as taken orally. It is commonly considered as an aid in sleeping due to its calming properties.

Raspberry Leaf

Raspberry Leaf

Of course we all know raspberries are one of the many delicious fruits out there, but what about its leaves? Their benefits can be just as beneficial as ensuring you have an adequate amount of fruits, especially for the women! Raspberry leaf, often used in teas, supports a healthy menstruation and soothes cramps. Aiding in fertility this tea is also beneficial for pregnant women as it tones the uterus and prepares the womb for childbirth. Ladies, you need this.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon

My favorite: Cinnamon! I use this in just about everything; waffles, oatmeal, most breakfast foods I eat contain this spice. Not only does it help with PCOS due to its positive effect on insulin resistance, it aids in weight loss and digestion, controls blood sugar, fights yeast infections and increases brain function. Trust me, you should always have cinnamon in your cabinet!

Garlic

Garlic

I love this one too. YUM! Garlic goes well one every dish if you ask me, so keeping it in my diet is fairly easy. Used topically Garlic is anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-bacterial! When eaten it can lower cholesterol, blood pressure and fight against heart attack. Keep this one on hand too!

Spearmint

Spearmint

Spearmint, infamous for chewing gum and Mojitos! My favorite. I drink this tea just about every morning as a pick me up and also for its hormonal balancing properties. (Ladies if you have PCOS or know someone who does, I recommend they amp up their Spearmint intake). Other benefits Spearmint offers to your body is that it reduces inflammation, eliminates nausea and aids in stress relief.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne Pepper

Look, if you love spicy food and put hot sauce on everything; it's time for you to graduate to Cayenne. Love it! Put it on your food, drink it to kickstart your day or even a hair growth oil, Cayenne Pepper is definitely another spice you'll want to keep on hand as well. It improves digestion, improves your metabolism and used as a topical cream it's effective with psoriasis and dermatitis. It's also another PCOS superfood as it aids in hormonal imbalance.

Turmeric

Turmeric

Another one of my favorites, annoying because it stains everything but still a staple spice in your cabinet! Turmeric helps to prevent prostate cancer, treat depression, detoxify the liver and as a mask works wonders on hyperpigmentation. Don't forget to add black pepper to activate the spice completely and you're good to go! Add Turmeric to your rice, create golden milk or drink a tea in the morning.
